I don’t get back to Urbana often enough, but I’m excited to return to the land of the Blue Knights and Hillclimbers THIS WEDNESDAY. I’ll be performing at Urbana University at 9pm at the Student Center!
I grew up in Urbana and still have lots of friends and family there. The jacket that I’ve occasionally worn onstage on this tour is part of my marching band uniform from Urbana High School.
Urbana High School’s mascot is the Hillclimber because the high school is situated – get this – on a hill. They named the school after what you have to do to get to it. Can you imagine that working anywhere else? The Springfield High Street Walkers? The Iowa City High School Field Crossers? Let’s go Crossers! The Detroit Public Ghetto Runners? But I digress.
Our mascot was a human. He was named Sparky. Because what else do you call a human who climbs a hill? Sparky’s costume consisted of a football uniform and a ginormous human head.
